This Newsletter also provides regular Enhanced Landfill Mining Policy Brief sections, where the policy aspects of ELFM are investigated and where suggestions to Policy Makers are provided. In March 2018, NEW-MINE launched a special policy brief on the ‘Lessons learned after the fourth symposium on Enhanced Landfill Mining‘.
In November 2018, another policy brief was written about ‘Why ELFM needs to be politically acknowledged in Europe‘ in preparation of the second seminar at the European Parliament about this issue. You can download it here.
After the seminar in the European Parliament, a new policy brief summarized the main lessons learned from the seminar and gave an answer ‘Why we need to develop a broad Dynamic Landfill Management strategy and vision for Europe’s 500,000 landfills‘: “NEW-MINE Policy Brief Dynamic Landfill Management”
The fourth policy brief of the NEW-MINE project focuses on the issue of “Climate change, flooding and landfills“. The combined resource recovery and remediation “NEW-MINE” approach can significantly reduce the risks posed by flooding and erosion of landfills/deposits, and the related emissions of contaminants to the environment.
