ELFM IV: Programme & call for abstracts (30-5-17)

The call for extended abstracts for the Fourth Symposium on Enhanced Landfill Mining (ELFM IV, February 5-7, 2018) is open until May 30, 2017. We call upon all our stakeholders to submit a proposal. Papers for ELFM IV will be grouped into four major sessions: Geophysics, remediation and (pre)processing technologies; Thermal valorisation technologies; Upcycling technologies; Multi-criteria assessment. Submit your abstract here. The ELFM IV Symposium will deal with both Urban Solid Waste landfills and Extractive Waste/Industrial Process Residue landfills. The Early Stage Researchers of the ETN NEW-MINE and SOCRATES projects are expected to feature as Regular Speakers in the Symposium.

Invited speakers and preliminary programme

Part of the ELFM IV programme is already available as it consists of 15 Invited Lectures, featuring a number of key academic, industrial and societal ELFM actors.

For KU Leuven both Prof. Lieve Helsen and Prof. Yiannis Pontikes will feature as keynote speakers. Their lectures are titled, respectively, “Advanced waste-to-resources by plasma gasification” and “ELFM residues and inorganic polymers: challenges and opportunities”.

Other Invited Speakers will come from renowned institutes such as ETH Zürich, RWTH Aachen, Montanuniversität Leoben, TU Delft, VITO, UGent, Padua University and Linköping University. High-level industry speakers will be present as well, featuring amongst others, Advanced Plasma Power, Renewi, Go4Circle and Colruyt. Civil Society will be represented through “DE LOCALS” group living close to the Remo landfill site in Belgium. You can view the preliminary programme here >

Best paper: 15 minutes of fame in the European Parliament

The author of the best (regular) paper will be given the opportunity to give a keynote lecture in the European Parliament on February 7, 2018, in the context of the Second ELFM Seminar in the EP. This Second Seminar is offered as part of the ELFM IV Symposium. The first part of the Symposium (February 5 and 6) will take place in the Lamot Conference Centre in Mechelen.
