Third Network-wide Event takes place in Belgium (February 2018)

The third Network-wide Event of ETN NEW-MINE takes place in Belgium from 5 till 9 February 2018. The first two days, Monday and Tuesday, the fourth Enhanced Landfill Mining Symposium is organised in Mechelen. On Wednesday, several side-activities are offered. Finally, on Thursday and Friday, the NEW-MINE consortium gathers to review the project’s progress.

During the ELFM Symposium on February 5 and 6, various keynote speakers and lecturers will present an overview of the state of art of research about landfill mining, several case studies and many posters. All ESRs will present the results they achieved so far. The ELFM-iv symposium takes place in Conference Center Lamot in Mechelen and is open for all participants.

On Wednesday morning February 7, all are invited to participate to the Joint Workshop Smart Ground / Cocoon / Rawfill where several tools to assess the suitability and feasibility of landfill mining, recovery methods and approaches with the key technical, environmental and economic considerations will be explored (@OVAM, Mechelen).

On Wednesday afternoon, the ESRs organise their researchers council in which they can discuss any remarks or suggestions they would like to bring to the attention of the Supervisory Board.

Third Network-wide Event takes place in Leuven on February 8 & 9, 2018

On Thursday February 8, the NEW-MINE consortium meets in Leuven to review the results achieved in the last half year. The ESRs are responsible for presenting an overview of the progress per workpackage and of their individual phd projects.  In the evening, a dinner is offered to all participants.

On Friday February 9, the Technical Steering Committee meeting and the Supervisory Board meeting are organised. During the TSC, the work package leaders present a brief overview of the main progress and issues in their WP. The progress of the ESRs is discussed and any suggestions for improvement debated. The TSC takes decisions (by consensus) on S/T matters, with specific attention to the interaction of the WPs. After the TSC, the Supervisory Board meeting takes place and conducts a full evaluation of the project state of the art and cross checks all the project milestones and deliverables. Also, attention is given to the training progress and the dissemination and exploitation.

In parallel, the ESRs receive a several trainings, both S/T and soft skills, part of the extensive training programme of ETN NEW-MINE.
