The Linköping University colleagues of ETN NEW-MINE have just published a milestone paper on policy related aspects of ELFM in the Journal Environmental Science & Policy. The paper is titled “The institutional capacity for a resource transition—A critical review of Swedish governmental commissions on landfill mining” [N. Johansson et al., Environmental Science & Policy 70 (2017): 46–53http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.envsci.2017.01.005]. The highlights of the paper are:
- The institutional capacity to handle a resource transition is limited.
- The attitude to support landfill mining depends on how the concept is framed.
- Evaluations of landfill mining are based on how traditional mining works.
- Complexity and potential of landfill mining are not well understood.
- Secondary resources found in landfills seem to lack an institutional affiliation.
